With over a decade of experience, Amy has developed a system to create durable custom stairs and specialty items to fulfill all project needs.  With the Woodshop Girl method, the same engineered wood that is used for the floors can be used for the stairs; eliminating the time-consuming, costly and imperfect process of color-matching.

The horizontal, protruding edge of the flooring which provides a seamless, finished look where the floor transitions to the top step. They not only provide an extension of the floor or stair’s surface for safety, they offer an opportunity to up your design game with more modern, clean lines and choice in the thickness to suit your design needs. They can be used to create your own attractive treads with professional onsite installation, or you can have the treads made separately for ease and accuracy of installation, often saving money in the long run.

These are treads made to sit on top of a stringer or “float” between them, and can be made as solid components directly from your engineered hardwood. Using a plywood core, we can make them to any size and thickness to seamlessly match the rest of your project.  Our method creates a product which is not prone to warping or cracking over time with seasonal temperature changes as you would find with a solid product.

Whatever you need to finish your project, we can make it from your engineered flooring! Contact us today, we would love to discuss your ideas.

Stair Components are sourced directly from the client’s supplied engineered hardwood. This way the colour is guaranteed to match, tongues and grooves are a perfect fit and the final product is a seamless transition from floor to stair.

However, when it comes to furniture, each piece is individually designed and always begins with the source material.

Working with existing colours, textures and dimensions is a welcome challenge. Where some designers might see limitations, Amy enjoys the process of finding a way to work with the existing material that comes into the shop to realize it’s greatest potential.

Meet Woodshop Girl

From humble beginnings as a Crayola sketch artist and sandbox sculptor, Woodshop Girl Amy Savoie has always had an intense desire to create. As a young adult, Amy earned her degree in the Fine Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD), where she discovered a genuine passion for working with tools as a Jewelry and Metalsmithing major. This love for the tools was compounded when she began working with her father part time as a Carpenter, which quickly blossomed into a full time career in the trades. She spent those years taking every opportunity available to learn and master the skills of the trade, with a keen interest in unconventional methods to create a desired outcome. Now, nearly 15 years later, Amy has taken her unique experiences and skill set and combined them with an entrepreneurial spirit to construct her greatest masterpiece: Woodshop Girl; a niche woodworking company building unique one of a kind furniture and custom products for stairs.

Amy has always loved to share her passion with others, and plans to introduce woodworking classes to her business in the near future. She whole-heartedly believes that once a person learns how to use the tools, there are absolutely no limits to what they can build. She continues to live by her mantra every day, in business and in life: Have Tools, Will Create.
